Biography of Febdian Rusydi

Introduction

Febdian Rusydi was born in Padang,Indonesia, on February 6, 26 years ago. He grew up in Padang together with his 3 brothers and 1 sister until he finished his Senior High School in 1996. He loves Physics so much since he was kid. He enjoys reading (science, technology, history, and fantasy), writing, teaching, and football. Febdian graduated his bachelor in Engineering Physics, Institut Teknologi Bandung, in January 2001. He worked two years for PerkinElmer Fluid Sciences as Design and Manufacturing Engineer, 1 year in Beltsville site (MD, USA) and 1 year in Asian Operation site (Singapore/Batam). Since 2002 he has been in [Rijks*universitet* Groningen](http://www.rug.nl/natuurkunde/index?lang=en) for studying Physics. Now he is finishing his master thesis in Nuclear Theoritical Physics group, [KVI](http://www.kvi.nl "Kernfysisch Versneller Instituut"), RUG. Beside the study, he is active in Persatuan Pelajar Indonesia (Indonesian Student Association, or PPI) in the Netherlands. He is the President of [PPI-Groningen](http://ppigroningen.com "Perhimpunan Pelajar Indonesia di Groningen") for 2004/2005. He is also a popular physics writer.

Parents

He is the second child of Rusydi Rusydi and Ulvi Mariati couple. His father is a Chemical Lecturer in University of Padang and one of personage elementary and higheducation in West Sumatera, and Mrs. Rusyid is a lecturer of Midwife and Nurse Academy in Padang. Febdian got his passion of science from his father, and learned how to live in the society from his mother.

Brothers and Sister

Febdian's older brother, Andrivo Rusydi, once worked at Brookhaven National Laboratory as a researcher. He finished his bachelor in Physics at ITB, graduated his master and Ph. D in Physics at RuG. He and Wayan Sulistyaningsih, his wife, live in Hamburg, Germany.

His young brother, Muhammad Ilhamdi Rusydi, graduated from Electrical Engineering, ITB. He is now a lecturer in Engineering Faculty of Universitas Andalas, and also student of master program in Electrical Engineering, ITB.

And the youngest sister, the sweetest and the prettiest one Anna Fadliah Rusydi, is a 3rd year undergraduate student in Environmental Engineering at ITB.

School And Activities

Febdian himself perfomed his study at the Engineering Physics ITB in August 1996. He did enjoy both academic and non-academic activities. Febdian was a team leader of laboratory assistance of Basic Physics Laboratory in Physics Department (1997~1999), a laboratory assistance of Principle Measurement in Engineering Physics Department (1998), and a team leader of laboratory assistance of Building Physics and Acoustic Laboratory (2000~2001). He defended his thesis, "Performance Of Energy Consumption Of The Office Building (Case Study: BNI CITY 46 Building Jakarta Which Using Building Automation System)", and it leaded him to graduate on February 10, 2001. He was also leader of Engineering Physic class '96, chairman of Apprenticeship Department in Student union of Engineering Physics (1998~1999), and field commander of Freshmen's Student Orientation of ITB (1998). He also involved directly on student demonstration movement for reformation of Indonesia's crisis during 1997~1998 as field-team from ITB.

Work

Febdian's abilities to manage his time and his mind to perform all of his activities, very good in communication, being in and leading a teamwork as a strong player, leaded him to be employed by PerkinElmer Inc. He worked and trained in Beltsville Site (Maryland, USA) as Design Engineer since Aug 23, 2001. In Jul 15, 2002, Febdian served PerkinElmer Fluid Sciences - Asia Operations, totally supported as Design and Advanced Manufacturing Engineer for PressureScience™ Seal Products. He established and directed a Development Lab for Seal Products, which this lab performs like a small Research and Development activity. Together with his team member, he has developed and qualified 2 main processes of E-Seal™ manufacturing very well; Hand-rolled and Numeric-Controlled types, during 5 months since he started in Sep 2002. In April 2003 to Jun 2003, he developed and qualified NC process to run U-Plex™ Seal.Febdian also involved on several improvement projects. He leads 4 Kaizen Projects, 2 Six-sigma projects, and assisted 1 Kaizen project. His first Six-sigma projects, that has made cost saving more than USD 70k in 7 month, was rewarded by management as Six-Sigma Green Belt on March 2003.

New Journey

In January 29, 2003, he was admitted as a student to the M.Sc. Programme in Physics at the University of Groningen. Sep 1, 2003 he flied over to Groningen, the Netherlands. Now, Febdian is trapped by himself in theoretical physics group, KVI, RuG. There, he is finishing his master thesis, developing a new model of Extensive Air Shower moder to simplify the calculation of some shower's physical properties.

What Febdian says about himself

I love deeply Allah and Muhammad His prophet, I love my family as well as Physics a lot. I'm forgetful, and full of human being weakness. I really respect for any differences (belief, race, nation, culture) and human right. I hate war and fight for whatever reason, people and things must be treated fairly. I enjoy my current life as well. Pysics is like sex. Sure it may give some practical results, but that's not why we do it (Feynman). Physicist are so cool, they are brilliant problem finder and solver, but that's also not why we d it. We do physics just because we LOVE it. Physics is our path to enjoy this wonderful life.
